The Reform Programme

The Movement for Reform Judaism

The Movement for Reform Judaism, which represents 43 synagogues across the UK, aims to build dynamic, growing communities of faith and learning which live out the values of Reform Judaism. We aim to reach out to people and respond to their needs; supporting them on their Jewish journey and helping them to find meaning and purpose in their lives.

Reform Judaism is living Judaism. It is a religious philosophy rooted in nearly four millennia of Jewish tradition, whilst actively engaged with modern life and thought. It is a living, evolving faith that Jews of today and tomorrow can live by.

Rabbi, writer and broadcaster, Jonathan Romain is minister of Maidenhead Synagogue in Berkshire. His publications have included "The Jews of England" and "Faith and Practice : A Guide to Reform Judaism Today" . His book on mixed-faith marriages "Till Faith Us Do Part" (HarperCollins) has helped develop a more welcoming attitude to couples who fall in love across the religious divide. "Your God Shall be My God" (SCM) explores religious conversion across all faiths in modern Britain. His most recent book, "Reform Judaism and Modernity" (SCM) is a comprehensive survey of Reform theology. He is chaplain to the Jewish Police Association, appears regularly on the radio and television, writes for both national and religious newspapers and for several years he was one of the judges for "The Times Preacher of the Year" competition, and is currently a judge for the BBC’s Frank Gillard awards. He is married with four sons. In 2004, he was awarded the MBE for his pioneering work with mixed-faith couples nationally.
